You don’t need to have experience in martial arts or any other kind of system to train at Tsubokai. In fact, you don’t even have to be very fit. That’s what we’re here for!
New starters with experience in similar systems could start higher up the syllabus, depending on ability. Training can be customised to account for previous injuries or other special conditions.
Just wear comfortable clothing to begin with. The room has wall-to-wall mats for safety so we train in bare feet. After around a month you’ll be expected to get kitted out – karate suit, kickboxing outfit, gloves, guards etc depending upon the systems you chose to train in. All equipment is available from the academy.
We operate a pay-as-you-train policy, so you won’t have to sign a direct debit form. The only additional payment is our annual membership fee of £30.00, payable after two weeks. This covers your training licence and member-to-member liability insurance from the Cobra Martial Arts Association too.
Most students are ready for their first belt test after the first 2 to 3 months of regular training. It can take anything from 3 to 5 years to obtain a black belt in any of the systems on offer, but that also depends on how many classes you attend. The more you put in, the more you get back.
Chief Instructor Alan Wolfenden is always happy to answer questions you might have about any of the systems, or your personal training goals.
